Who is Miss Rodeo South Dakota? 


Miss Rodeo South Dakota has high moral and ethical character. She is a young lady who is a talented, presentable horsewoman with vast knowledge of the equine industry and exhibits the careful and humane treatment of animals. She desires to act as an official representative of rodeo, who understands the sport of rodeo in its entirety and is able to explain it to anyone whom she comes in contact with. Miss Rodeo South Dakota strives to promote the state of South Dakota and the western way of life. She also acts professionally, speaks intelligently and with dignity, and enjoys meeting people. Miss Rodeo South Dakota is goal oriented and wants to be a leader in her community and is interested in furthering her chosen career.

History of the Miss Rodeo South Dakota Crown
The heart shape showcased in the Miss Rodeo South Dakota crown has been a part of our history since 1971 when it appeared in rhinestones.  In 1979, South Dakota was graced with a wire traveling crown that featured the very recognizable heart shape.
After 14 years, the wire crown was retired and Miss Rodeo South Dakota was fortunate to receive a traveling, custom Cary Schmidt sterling silver piece that took its place. The wire MRSD crown is on display at the Tri-State Museum in Belle Fourche, SD.
The heart-shaped silver crown sat on the hats of 27 Miss Rodeo South Dakota Queens before it was retired in 2019.  2020 brought Miss Rodeo South Dakota the blessing of an exquisite Landstrom's Black Hills Gold crown with the help of Brandon Keyser and sponsored by Red Wilk Construction.
This crown gives a nod to the history of our crowns by featuring the iconic heart shape (making Miss Rodeo South Dakota easy to spot in a crowd), an outline of our beloved state of South Dakota, rose quartz (South Dakota's state mineral stone) and of course, the ever-stunning Black Hills Gold.  Miss Rodeo South Dakota is honored to share the beauty of her state through this crown, and we look forward to it resting in our "hearts" for years to come.
